Edwards on Assurance
Should assurance be a gift to every Christian upon their conversion, or is it something that we work for in the course of our Christian life? This debate was sharpened in the eighteenth century and was given new content because of the Enlightenment and the Great Awakening in New England. This project, written by a student at Ridley, examines Jonathan Edwards’s understanding of assurance, and critiques his conclusions.
