About the Role

Youth Minister

Part-time

Oakleigh Anglican is seeking a youth minister to work 2 days per week (per negotiation) to develop and disciple both the group of youth in our parish and the youth who come to our other outreach programs. These days of employment would cover both the leading of ministry (such as Sunday morning, Messy Church and a Youth stepping stone program) as well as preparation time, meeting with the staff team and time spent in planning the year. 

The successful applicant with be a suitably qualified and or experienced person with the appropriate leadership and pastoral skills to develop and lead our youth ministry. The successful candidate will be working with a team in this ministry and serves under the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne Safe Ministry protocols and codes of conduct.

Character is a central requirement for all in ministry. The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• Lively, mature faith and trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour
• A life grounded in prayer and Bible study
• A genuine desire to be shaped by Biblical teaching with humility and teachability
• Enthusiasm for making disciples of Jesus who in turn make disciples of Jesus
• High integrity in their relationships and handling of sensitive and confidential matters
• Compassion and mercy in their interactions

Competencies, Key task – to develop and grow a new ministry to the youth at Oakleigh.

• Inspire teenagers to be disciples of Jesus
• Ability to think theologically about their role and ministry
• Confident ability to teach Biblically and lead youth to engage well with the Bible
• Organise, plan, lead and deliver regular youth ministry in regular parish services
• Build discipleship relationships with both parish youth & those in our outreach ministries
• Ability to connect with both churched and unchurched people
• Ability to work in a team to build an integrated ministry across the church
• Energy for the role and a willingness to work hard
• Demonstrates creativity
• Willingness to develop ministry skills such as preaching/leading etc

As an Anglican Church, we are under the leadership of the senior minister (the Vicar) and the governance of our Parish Council and Wardens within the wider structures of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne.
